Nekopara: a visual novel review.
(Informal) review written 43 weeks ago.
I wasn’t originally going to write about this, since I didn’t enjoy it as much as I expected, but I felt obligated to because holy crap the sprites move.
Okay, so this is Nekopara (short for Neko Paradise, i.e. Cat Paradise), and my main reason for playing this catgirl visual novel was because after playing BL game after BL game, I realized I needed girls in my life. Second main reason was because I’ve heard a lot of…. interesting things about it. Let’s leave it at that.
The plot was, ultimately, and I mean this literally: he fucks his two cats.
In hindsight, I really shouldn’t have been surprised that it was just your regular boring fappy fap game with zero development and zero care for the protagonist. BL games and regular eroges are tremendously different with regard to substance and character care, sadly. But daaamn, the sprites move. They blink and and their breasts sway and their facial expressions change in the middle of the line! I’m a noob, I’m aware, but holy crap that was revolutionary to me. The little CGI animations to match their emotions as they speak are amazing. And and and get a hold of this, THE CGS ARE ANIMATED LIKE HOOOOLLLLYYYY CRRAAAAPPPP that’s my first time seeing anything like that! Of course I can’t describe it in detail — because, ahem, I’m not in the mood to write porn — but it was so ingenious to me that I managed to let that awkward, disgusting excuse for bgm slide. (Seriously, that amount of slurping should only be reserved for when you’re sucking the living hell out of escargot.)
So yes, Nekopara wasn’t the best, and it wasn’t quite what I was looking for when I said I wanted girls, but I guess it was entertaining enough for an easily entertained me.
